Ex-Commissioner of Information in Bauchi State, Alhaji Salisu Ahmed Barau said Monday that Governor Mohammed Abubakar is trying to cover his deficiencies by shifting people’s mind from his non performance in the past 15 months of his administration.
It could be recalled that Governor Muhammad Abubakar Wednesday in Abuja at press briefing, accused the administration of his predecessor, Alhaji Isah Yuguda, of withdrawing N1bn from one of the state’s accounts in one day, alleging that the N1bn was withdrawn from one of the state government’s accounts with multiple N10m cheques.
According to him, the ecological funds Governor Abubakar  is talking about some people have already petitioned Yuguda to ICPC on the issue, which the ICPC wedded in  and found the allegation against Yuguda as  blameless.
“Governor Abubakar is aware of the issue and I don’t know why he is becoming so particular about the matter now”, Barau reacted to Abubakar’s vituperations in a chat with newsmen in Bauchi Monday.
He explained that if withdrawal of the funds is against the ethics and principles or rules and regulations governing withdrawal of funds, then the banks are there to take care of the issue but not the former governor.
Barau however queried that the question to ask is whether the money in question was judiciously used or not, but if the money was used judiciously why cry Wolf.
“I was a serving commissioner during Yuguda’s administration, the 2 billion Naira ecological  funds disbursed was meant for the ecological problems facing the state in the 2013 -2014 floods and erosion that ravaged some communities  in Darazo and  Alkaleri LGAs, there was also the issue of environmental degradation, collection and clearance of refuse in the state”
Barau observed that Governor Abubakar’s claim was part of a smear campaign against the personality of Mallam Isa Yuguda and his Administration and “This has become the strategy of the present administration in the gamut to divert peoples’ attention from its failings. We used to advise them to avoid witch-hunt”.
Barau asked Governor Abubakar to stop crying wolf while looking for sympathy from people, rather he should focus and maintain the solid foundation ‎put on ground in most facets of the economy by immediate past Yuguda administration.
