Plateau State branch of Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) has organized a sensitization lecture to emphasis the importance of Hijab wearing and warned the global community on segregation of those who wear the Hijab.
Consequently, they also urged members to take measure against Lassa fever and other communicable disease.
The lecture was part of the activities to mark this year World Hijab Day celebration and Islamic scholars presented lectures on the significance of the Hijab and other aspect of life to a Muslim woman.
Speaking at the event, Plateau State Coordinator of FOMWAN, Mairo Sani said that World Hijiab “was set aside to bring women together to brainstorm and inculcate moral and spiritual values especially decent dressing and good attitude of young girls for the development of the society“.
She said that the group this year decided to focus on educating women on Hijap because of its significance despite the global dimension on the Islamic teaching to women.
According to her, they also embarked on sensitization on the scourge of Lassa fever that has claimed the lives of some citizens in Plateau and some neighboring state so as to compliment the efforts of governments in tackling the menace.
Mairo explained that the objective of the awareness lecture is to trained women on preventive measures against Lassa fever as mothers and critical members of the family and the society, and to promote personal hygiene, environmental cleanliness and skills to avoid some unhealthy practices at home.
In a remark, North Central Coordinator of FOMWAN, Dr Summayya Hamza, added that the exercise was aimed at reminding people of the importance of protecting the womanhood, for women to dress decently and not expose their God given endowment.
She noted that Hijab is a protection and not a yardstick for women to be above the law, as Hijab portrays decency to Muslim women and not to be used for any unlawful act.
