FMC Yola Embarks On Medical Outreach

As part of its corporate social responsibility, the Federal Medical Center, FMC Yola has embarked on medical outreach to rural communities facing dysfunctional health care facilities and transportation constraints.

Chief Medical Director Prof. Muhammad Auwal Abubakar led his  management staff to  Jada General Hospital, in Jada Local Government Area in the state  weekend for a facility tour.

Abubakar told the gathering that, the initiative was designed to carter for people of the state situated at the southern zone having fulfilled the collaborative requirements needed saying that,the people of northern zone are enjoying theirs in Madagali council which is  being served by University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital .

He explained that his centre will be in collaboration with state Government through Ministry of Health to ensure efficient and professional handling of these medical outreach centers for the benefit of humanity.

He also announced  that the FMC Yola is in the process of upgrading to a teaching hospital status noting that an assurance of having more qualified personnel to the centre which will be extended to the medical outreach centers across the state.

Earlier, in  his welcome address Executive chairman of Jada local government council Hon. Idris Salihu (Ubandoman Koma) expressed  delight with the initiative, noting that the question of dysfunctional healthcare delivery would be a forgotten issue in Jada.

 Salihu assured maximum cooperation of his council and people for the success of such commendable initiative.

While conducting the guests round the hospital, Dr. Tijjani Ali Mindaka the PMO Jada General Hospital who was the only medical doctor manning the hospital disclosed that the hospital has 20 nurses and only one nurse covers night shift to manage the entire patients in the hospital.

In his remarks District head of Jada Alh. Umaru Ardo the Mukaddas Ganye representing HRH the Gangwari Ganye acknowledged that it was yet another milestone in the history of Jada now that patients would need not travel elsewhere to have their ailments whether minor or major treated. 

Ardo noted that the hospital was established as a cottage hospital before being upgraded to general hospital while commending the efforts of those who have contributed in the realization of the goal.

Having lauded the initiative, former Vice President Alh. Atiku Abubakar and Alh. Abudullahi Maikako have generously donated fully furnished houses that would accommodate medical personnel from FMC Yola in Jada, this is in addition to the four houses donated by the Jada local government councils
