Heavy downpour has claimed the life of a woman, identified as Rashida (Rashi) Sule and her child, Tukur Sule at Dinau village, as well as destroyed over 4,000 houses in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The council’s chairman, Alhaji Usman Nalado Matawalle who disclosed this while speaking to newsmen, said the incident has become a source of concern to the local government council.
Alhaji Usman Nalado explained that the local government has set up a committee that would assess the level of the damage for onward submission to the state government.
Alhaji Usman Nalado said although the local government has made adequate arrangements against the flood, “but it was an act of God.”
He explained that the flood affected the entire wards of the local government area.
Alhaji Usman Matawalle said already they set up a committee that would assess the level of the damages.
The council’s chairman said they visited the affected areas to sympathize with the victims.
Alhaji Usman Nalado Matawalle said they have forwarded the report to NEMA and SEMA for assistance.
He prayed to Almighty Allah to prevent the reoccurence of such incident in the entire local government.
Alhaji Usman said that over 4,000 houses were destroyed by the flood.
The Matawalle Sandamu warned people of the area against dumping refuse on waterways.
He also appealed to people to exercise patience as they have a good plan that would move the area forward.
