Following the report of flood disaster that affected some Local government areas of Shani, Damboa and Chibok in Borno State, Committee on Flood Disaster has visited Dambo’a, Shani and Chibok local government areas.
This informed Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum’s setting up of a committee under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Governor, Hon.Umar Usman Kadafur to visit all flood affected areas across the state with a view to assessing the situation and proffering lasting solution to the affected areas.
The committee comprising of officials of NEMA and SEMA were at the scenes of the incident in Damboa and Chibok LGAs to assess the situation on ground.
The committee commenced its assignment with physical verification of collapsed buildings, damaged infrastructures and farmlands that were destroyed by the flood in Damboa, where the committee discovered that in Damboa LGA, 440 households were affected by the flood, while 886 houses were destroyed across eight communities.
In Chibok LGA, the team discovered 436 households were affected by the flood Disaster in three communities, while several hectares of cultivated farmlands were sub-merged.
While in Shani LGA, many houses and farmlands were sub-merged, leading to destruction of several property, infrastructure and foodstuff worth millions of Naira.
The assessment was conducted by members of the committee alongside officials of SEMA, local government officials and community leaders of the affected communities.
