Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel has announced plans to reshuffle his cabinet with five commissioners eased out for new ones to come in.
The decision was reached at the state executive council (Exco) meeting on Thursday at Government House, Uyo.
Information and Strategy Commissioner in the State, Comrade Ini Ememobong who disclosed this to journalists at the end of the Exco meeting, said names of five nominees to replace the former have been forwarded to the state house of assembly for confirmation.
Though Ememobong did not mention the names of the affected Commisioners, but indication showed that they are those who have political ambitions in 2023 general elections.
One of them is the Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umo Eno, whom Governor Emmanuel anointed as his preferred candidate to succeed him office on May 29, 2023.
Others are Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Glory Edet who is eyeing the Ini/Ikono Federal Constituency seat, Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Prince Ukpong Akpabio who is aspiring to Essien Udim State House and Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof Eno Ibanga who seeking Eket Senatorial District seat at the National Assembly
Also names of the Commissioners’ designate are not also not disclosed to the press as at when this report was filed but it is rumoured that the eldest son of immediate past State Chairman of PDP, late Udo Ekpenyong who died barely two years in the office made the list.
Meanwhile the Exco meeting which had The Governor, Udom Emmanuel presiding deliberated on thehe ongoing strike by the Nigeria Union of Teachers and its demands.
The Council, according to Comrade Ememobong had directed that the relevant ministries should take necessary steps to solve the problem immediately.
“Hon. Commissioner for Works and Fire Service – Works listed roads that have been completed and are ready for commissioning,” he stated.
