Pandemonium erupted Tuesday afternoon around Allen Avenue area of Ikeja in Lagos, as the building of Stanbic IBTC Bank was gutted by fire.
However, no casualty was recorded, as the fire was said to have been hurriedly put off by operatives of the Lagos State Fire Service who raised to the scene swiftly.
The immediate cause of the inferno could not be ascertained at the time of filing the report, but some eye witnesses attributed it to electrical fault.
Our correspondent who arrived the scene few hours after the fire was put off, gathered that it was only an airconditioner and few items that were destroyed by the inferno.
An eyewitness, who spoke under the condition of anonymity said the incident occurred at about 12noon, adding that the fire was noticed on the second floor.
He added that the prompt arrival of the operatives of the Lagos State Fire Service command headquarter, Alausa, prevented the inferno from wrecking major havoc.
According to him, all the workers within the premises of the 3 -floor building scampered in different directions for safety before the arrival of fire men.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire Service Musbau Rasak confirmed the incident in a telephone chat with our correspondent.
He confirmed that the timely intervention of his men saved the building from massive destruction, saying the incident would have gone out of hands.
Rasak also said the cause of the inferno is yet to be ascertained, adding that it will be revealed in the course of investigation.
His words, ” Yes I can confirm that the incident happened. Our men saved the situation because we arrived there on time and did not allow any casualty.
We dont know the immediate cause, but it will be revealed in the course of investigation “.
