Fire Guts Popular Balogun Market Again

In less than two months, another section of the popular Balogun market in Lagos has been gutted by fire.

It affected the topmost floor of a five storey building where ladies shoes are warehoused.

Property estimated to the tune of millions of Naira were said to have been destroyed by the inferno.

The fire reportedly broke out at No 32 Balogun Plaza, a section renowned for the storage of ladies shoes at about 8.00am.

However, no casualty was recorded during the fire incident due to the early arrival of emergency responders.

As the inferno lasted, there were fears of further escalation as balls of fire billowed, thick smoke took over sky, causing panic I’m the area.

As at press time , the cause of the incident could not be ascertained. But some witness attributed it to spark of electric power surge.

Operatives of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Police, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and a couple of other agencies were on ground to cordoned off the area for rescue operation.

The  Director Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye confirmed the incident when contacted.

She said the fire out break affected only the topmost floor of the five storey building, adding that it was brought under control as at 10.30am.
