Following the outcry by road users on the state of  Amansea Road along Enugu-Onitsha expressway in Anambra State, the state government has directed the state Ministry of Works to carry out urgent palliative works on both portions of the road.

The directive which was handed out after the weekly Executive Council meeting also asked the Ministry to also work on the old road leading to and fro Enugu State.

So far, the ministry had through road service providers, brought in several trucks of boulders and chippings to fill gullies created on the expressway to provide temporary relief to motorists plying the road.

It said that the palliative work on the federal road is to ease difficulties faced by motorists plying the bad portions at the Amansea end of Enugu-Onitsha expressway.

Speaking to journalists in Awka, the state Commissioner for Works, Mr Marcel Ifejiofor, explained that his Ministry was making effort to drastically reduce the nightmare faced by motorists at the Amansea end of the expressway.

He said that a number of earth movers were brought in to spread and roll over the boulders and chippings and these significantly eased traffic on both sides of the expressway.

According to Mr Ifejiofor, the drainage is also being cleared to allow free flow of floodwaters.

He hailed Gov. Willie Obiano for his prompt response at ensuring an end to the plight of motorists coming in or going out of the state, stressing that before the end of the week, the current ugly experience would be a thing of the past.
