Former Minister of Power and governorship aspirant on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Dr. Olu Agunloye, has said that the rate of poverty in country today is alarming, therefore, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to shift its fight to the scourge and not only on corruption.
Agunloye also warned the federal government that the ongoing fight against corruption should not be fight of individual but about institution.
Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja after picking his nomination to contest the ticket of the party, the former Minister promised to bring on board integrity, honesty and trust if given the opportunity to be the next governor of Ondo State.
According to him, the time has come for the President to take a deep look on his policies and correct some of the mistakes committed so far for the purpose of raising the standard of living of Nigerians.
Agunloye said if he eventually becomes the next governor, empowerment of the people, payment of salary and pension, raising the standard of living without leaving out infrastructural development would be his priority.
While presenting the form to the aspirant, the SDP deputy national chairman, Dr. Abdul Ahmmed Isiaq said the PDP government in the Ondo state has failed woefully.
“Governor Mimiko has betrayed the trust of the people. He promised to alleviate poverty but he failed. He promised to always pay workers salary but he has failed. It is now time for the people of the state to vote out the PDP government and to bring on board a genuine change through the enthronement of SDP government in the state.
“Anybody Mimiko present to people as governor will not be different from himself.”
