The Federal Government, on Tuesday pledged to assist victims of flood disaster in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, made the pledge when he visited the scene of the disaster to commiserate with the victims in Jibia.
“I am here on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari to commiserate and condole with the Katsina State Government and victims of the disaster.
“The President asked me to assure you that everything will be done to ensure that every victim is taken care of and this never repeat itself again.
“We are here with the Director General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to provide all the relief materials that will be needed.
“As Nigerians, we deserve to live our lives happily, we deserve to be treated well,’’ Osinbajo said.
He prayed to Almighty God to avert future occurrence of the disaster.
“We will work with the state government where compensation is necessary, we will compensate and rebuild where necessary,” Osinbajo said.
New Nigerian gathered that the disaster occurred last week, leading to the death of over 50 persons and rendering over 1,000 homeless.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has pledged to continue to ensure timely response to victims of all forms of disasters across the country.
The Vice President Yemi Osinbajo made the pledged when he visited the Emir of Katsina to offer condolence and sympathized with him over the recent tragedy occurred in Jibia Local Government.
Professor Yemi Osinbajo described the tragedy as terrible and prayed for Allah to prevent the future occurrence of the incidence.
He said he and Governor Masari has visited the area to commiserate with the people and assess the damage done as well as offers comport to those who lost their families members.
Professor Yemi Osinbajo commended Katsina State Government for the timely response and measures put in place immediately the tragedy occurred.
The Vice President said the National Emergency Management Agency has response very quickly and brought relief materials to the victims.
Earlier, Governor Aminu Bello Masari appreciated the condolence and sympathy visit by the Vice President to Katsina State.
Governor Aminu Bello Masari said that the Federal and State Governments will look at the issues that cause the flooding in Jibia and other areas with a view to find a lasting solution.
Responding, the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumin Kabir Usman who expressed appreciation for the sympathy visit by the Vice President called on victims to take the incidence as an act of Allah.
The Emir acknowledges the effort of the Federal Government for the timely response to victims of all forms of disasters across the country.
He called on people to continue to pray to overcome all the challenges facing the country.
