FG-WAMCO partner on dairy farming

Federal Government is making steady progress in harnessing dairy farming in Nigeria and investment in the sector will begin to yield benefits in the next few years, Minister of agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has assured.
The minister said this when the management of Friesland Campina WAMCO Nigeria PLC paid him a courtesy visit.
He said as part of strategies to enhance sustainable food sufficiency in the country, the country will review its partnership and investment in the sector for future growth.
The corporate citizen is a major partner with the federal government on an ongoing multi-million naira dairy development and expansion project he added.
Chief Ogbeh commended the company for reaffirming its commitment to growing Nigeria’s dairy industry with the objective of raising raw milk quality and safety, increase farm productivity and support farmers in getting market for their milk.
During the visit, a 12-minute documentary was shown on how Friesland Campina WAMCO Nigeria PLC has improved the dairy farming skills and incomes of Fulani herdsmen from subsistence farming to growing commercial concern.  The documentary was produced in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
“On our part, we are committed to raising dairy farming  to a higher level  in Nigeria and making small scale entrepreneurs  to have pride in agriculture,” Rahul Colaro, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) of the company said.
The Federal Ministry of Agriculture in April, 2011 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Friesland Campina WAMCO Nigeria PLC on dairy development.
