FG to provide security in academic establishments – Minister.

Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu yesterday hinted that Federal government is ready to provide security in all education establishments across Nigeria.
The Minister dropped this hint in Ibadan while speaking at the opening of the training workshop on the “Use of Curriculum Guides, Record Keeping, Guidance and Counselling and Multigrade Teaching Techniques for Nomadic School Teachers in the South-West Zone” held at the Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
Speaking through a Director in the Ministry, Mrs. Ajaegbu Cordelia, he declared that the present administration in the country regards education as key to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) hence the commitment of the Federal Ministry of Education to provide leadership in its attainment through promotion of equitable access to primary and secondary education for boys and girls as well as promotion of equitable access to technical and vocational education.
He pointed out that the country has recorded appreciable progress in the implementation of the MDGs, particularly in the area of promoting and improving the quality of nomadic education and generally in the Universal Primary Education enrollment, the Minister however emphasized the need to further build the capacity of nomadic education Head Teachers/Teachers.
According to the Minister, “this is critical for the sustainability of MDGs achievement in the education sector and or smooth transition from MDGs to SDGs in Nigeria”
Emphasizing that “the capacity building programme for Nomadic Head Teachers/Teachers is also considered as the most effective strategies for ensuring a turnaround in the quality of Nomadic Education,” the Minister said all teachers in the Nomadic schools should be regularly exposed to new innovations in their profession, through skills training and re-training programme.
The Minister added that FG is also making frantic efforts to eliminate violence and harmful practices against girls in accordance with the provisions of the Sustainable Development Goals, he re-assured.
Speaking, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Nomadic Education (NCNE), Professor Rashid Aderinoye said the workshop was for the benefit 120 nomadic school teachers across the six states in the South West zone namely Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Osun and Ekiti.
Professor Aderinoye noted that “the choice of Ibadan, Oyo State as centre of convergence of the states within the zone is because the people of Oyo State and particularly Ibadan have made themselves the pacesetters, as the slogan of the state implies”.
The NCNE Executive Secretary stressed that the training and re-training of school teachers under the Nomadic education scheme would be a continuous process to ensure regular update of their skills and competence “for the provision of quality tuition for the achievement of education for all and the Sustainable Development Goals we are transiting into next year”.
The Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr. Yinka Osuntogun, lauded the NCNE for its sustained support for the implementation of various programmes under the scheme over the years, such as the Interactive Radio Instruction (I.R.I.) which, according to him, had tremendously developed Training and Learning situation in our Nomadic and Migrant Farmers Primary Schools.
Mr Osuntogun said the present administration in Oyo State attaches priority to the scheme, saying, “some years ago, most of our Nomadic and Migrant Farmers Primary Schools in the State were operating under shed and trees, but now several modern classroom buildings have been constructed in almost all our Nomadic and Migrant Farmers Primary Schools in the State to ease teaching and learning activities in these schools since Oyo State has the highest numbers of 382 functional Nomadic Schools in Nigeria.”
