FG to end HND B.Sc dichotomy – Minister

The Minister of Education Malam Adamu Adamu has said that the Federal Government is making necessarry steps to end the dichotomy between Higher National Diploma (HND) and the Bachelor of Science Degree (B.Sc) in the country.
According to him, the present administration under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari is aware of the issue and working toward bringing it to an end.
The Minister was speaking at the 32nd combined Convocation and Diamond Jubilee ceremony of the Kaduna Polytechnic adding that the Federal Government has identified the relevance of Polytechnic education in the country’s socio-economic development and also know the big gully between the non formal and formal Technical Education, but convicted that the national vocational framework will integrate the non formal sector with the formal.
Represented by the Executive Secretary of the National Bpoard for technical Education (NBTE), Adamu said his Ministry aims at supporting the efforts of all stakeholders to enhance the relevance of Technical Vocation Education systems and to equip the youth with skill required for employment as well as entrepreneurship.
He added that the change administration is giving priority  to technical and vocational skills development because of it potential in contributing to the achievement of quality education and training.
The Minister while calling on well meaning Nigerians, Non Governmental Organizations as well as private sectors
to support government in the funding education, challenged the graduantes to contribute their quota in the attainment of
technological development in the country.
In his remark, the Kaduna State Governor Malam Nasir Ahmad El-rufal said the APC Government is taking a substantial investment on education and will address all lapses to put the learning environment and the entire sector on track.
He however commended the staff of the institution for making the country proud by turning out sound graduates, adding that 86 percent welders turned out from the Institution.
El-rufai called on them to be good ambassadors of the institution anywhere they find themselves.
Earlier, the Rector, Dr Mohammed Bello said the institution is among the first set slated for the implementation of national Vocational certificate.
According to him, the polytechnic presented a total number
of 67,403 graduates for the convocation. These include, 2005, 2006, 2007 up to 2015.
The Rector however called on the graduates to be mindful of their identification as well as to be good ambassadors of their Alma Mata at all time.
