FG Releases N1.5bn Ecological Fund For Ebonyi Landslide

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved and released the sum of 1.5 billion Naira Ecological fund meant to tackle Ogwuma Edda Landslide in Ebonyi State.

Briefing newsmen immediately after state Executive Council meeting in new Government House, Abakaliki, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Hon.Uchenna Orji stated that, “EXCO approved that the Ecological fund be solely invested for the purpose for which it was released and that 10% of the said sum be retained for consultancy services and design fees for the entire project.”

He further added that exco approved a notice of revocation of rights of occupancy order 2022 presented by the Honourable Commissioner for Lands and Survey over the area affected by the landslide disaster that occurred in Ogwuma Edda in Afikpo South Local Government Area which has caused socio economic disruption in the area and yet not abating. 

A  further resolve by exco  was the immediate acquisition of the affected place and evacuation of the occupants or inhabitants be effected to enable the State Government assume effective control of the situation in the affected place.

“EXCO received a memo from the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development for the appropriation of the Ecological Funds approved and released by Mr. President on the landslide in Ogwuma Edda in Afikpo South Local Government Area. Exco noted in appreciation that the sum of One Billion, Five Hundred Million Naira (N1.5 Billion Naira) approved by the Federal Government had been released, and Exco approved that it be invested solely for the purpose for which it was released and that 10% of the said sum be retained for Consultancy services and design fees for the entire project. 

“Exco also approved a notice of Revocation Of Rights Of Occupancy Order 2022, presented by the Honourable Commissioner for Lands and Survey over the area affected by the landslide disaster that occurred in Ogwuma Edda in Afikpo South Local Government Area which has caused socio economic disruption in the area and yet not abating.”
