The Kano State Director, of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaiji Muhammad Shehu Adamu has said that he is satisfied with the cordial relationship between the herders and farmers that settled at Kunmawa Dam in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, Kano State.
He stated this in his remarks when he paid a visit to the dam site, where he had interactions with the farmers and the herders that are living at the surroundings of the dam.
He enjoined the two important sides to embrace peace at the place for better livelihood.
Alhaji Muhammad Shehu added that the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is committed to improving the livelihood of Nigerian citizens through various activities with emphasis on earth dams rehabilitation across the country.
He assured the two sides that Kunnawa Dam would continue to accommodate farmers and herders especially when there is peaceful co-existence between the two sides.
He hoped that the place would accommodate more farmers and herders and congratulated them for benefiting from the FMARD’s earth dam rehabilitation project.
In his brief speech, the chairman of Kunnawa Dam Farmers Association, Malam Muhammad Mai Albasa said that the ministry deserves commendation and good prayers because Kunnawa Dam is now rehabilitated and put into use by farmers and herdsmen which is another landmark achievement by the Buhari administration.
He announced that they have been living peacefully since the repairs of the dam.
Malam Muhammad Mai Albasa on behalf of the association called on the Federal Government to expand the dam for more dividends of democracy in dry season farming, and for livestock consumption.
Similarly, the director was able to meet herdsmen that settled within the dam surroundings, where the leader of the herdsman, Ardo Alhaji Geza thanked all those who have lend a helping hand in the promotion of peace and unity between the farmers and herdsmen since the repairs of the dam.
He called on the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to expand the dam for the benefit of the two sides.
The state director who was accompanied by an official of the ministry,calso inspected the newly installed mechanized water system for their day-to-day consumption and had a look at their settlements respectively.
