In an effort to find a lasting solution over the ongoing

security challenges in the North-West Geo political zone, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,
Boss Mustapha has explained that the Federal Government is seeking more ways to tackle issues related to insecurity in the country by all means.
Speaking on Thursday during of a two days stakeholder’s engagement workshop on current security challenges in the North-West Geo political zone, holding at Arewa House, Kaduna, in collaboration with the Conflict Security and Development Consult, Mustapha said that the Federal Government is concerned with these challenges and has been working assiduously to reduce them to the barest minimum.
The SGF in a speech delivered, Mr. David Attah who represented him, added that, Nigeria has been grappling with a number of security challenges across all parts of the country, adding that the challenges have resulted in loss of valuable lives and displacement of several people as well as the destruction of property worth billions of Naira.
He said, “tackling insecurity is one of the three (3) priority areas of the present administration.

“You are also aware that this administration has taken far reaching measures to tackle insecurity in the country. Some of the measures include; increase in budgetary allocation as well as shoring up the equipment holding of the military

and other security agencies.
“Similarly, approval was granted for the recruitment of ten thousand (10,000) Police personnel for three (3) consecutive years while their salaries have been upwardly reviewed to boost their morale, enhance productivity and elicit hard work.

It is therefore, gratifying to note that the security situation has relatively improved across all parts of the country.
“Over thirty-thousand (30,000) insurgents and their families have so far surrendered. In addition, the threats of the separatists in the South East and parts of South South Geo Political Zones have reduced in traction. In the maritime domain, our waters are now calm and we no longer receive reports of daily attacks by privates.
“Troops of Operation SHARAN DAJI, in conjunction with personnel of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and other intelligence/security and para-Military agencies, have sustained onslaught against the criminal elements during which several of administration has taken far reaching measures to tackle insecurity in the country.” he said.
According to him, at the end of the workshop, the participants will be encouraged to enlighten other members of their respective communities on the significance of collective efforts in fighting crime and criminality.
Also delivering his speech, the Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasiru el-Rufa’i, said that the timing of the event is apt, as a testament to the hovernment’s determination to roundly address the current security challenges, while the choice of the location also reflects the strategic importance of Kaduna State to collaborative efforts against insecurity in the Northwest.
The Governor represented by the State Commissioner of Security and Internal Affairs, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, explained that the insecurity is in many instances linked to diversity, and in terms of diversity, Kaduna State is not just symbolic of the Northwest, but is a mini-Nigeria. It has about 10 million people, with 23 Local Government Areas and about 56 ethnic nationalities.
He said “as we know, the fundamental objective of Government is the security and welfare of its people. The current security threats confronting the Northwest States-particularly banditry and terrorism – have become increasingly irregular. They require significant levels of collaboration between and across layers of government, as well as distinct groups.”
“In clear recognition of this fact, this forum has been set up to stimulate productive engagement between relevant groups across the region. It is believed that such an engagement will avail profound insight to all stakeholders and position them to effectively negate the existing challenges at community and group levels.”
“When security issues are unfortunately politicized, criminal elements are emboldened and are provided with a shield to deepen criminality and proliferate their inhuman acts. The Kaduna State Government has consistently stated that all citizens must rather recourse to the law in the face of grievance or injury.” According to him
Finally, Malam Nasir el-Rufa’i expresses gratitude to the Office of the SGF and the Special Services Department, while also welcome all to Kaduna, and wish them very productive sessions.
