Management of Nestle Nigeria PLC has received satisfactory feedback from the 100 beneficiaries of its rural women empowerment project.
Mr. Khalid Ramadan, Commercial Manager of Nestle Nigeria, attested to the claim in a news release titled: “Nestle Nigeria: Empowering Rural Women Project Moves to South East.”
He said, “We have received positive feedback from the first 100 beneficiaries of the programme who are based in the suburbs of Abuja and Osogbo. They are reporting faster turnover and increased revenue as well as stronger visibility of their business outlets within their locations.”
The company’s ambition is to empower 300 of those women who are retailers within its distribution channel, the commercial manager said.
“The programme was recently launched in Nsukka and Obolo-Afor, both in Enugu State to reach an additional 50 women retailers. This brings the number of beneficiaries to 150,” Nestle leadership explained in February 2022.
The company expressed confidence that its intervention through training, mentorship and product grants are a right mix for success. “By improving the household incomes of rural women, Nestle is helping to improve their access to adequate nutrition, good healthcare and good quality education for their families,” the commercial manager emphasized.
Beneficiaries of the project receive grants by way of Nestle products valued at 300 per cent of their current monthly sales, the company disclosed.
The beneficiaries also participate in training and mentorship programme which equip them with requisite skills to scale up and sustain their businesses.
Those programmes, the firm highlighted, are delivered by the implementation partner, FDConsults which also works with each retailer over three months post-training to help them succeed.
“Each beneficiary retailer is linked to a one-on-one mentor for guidance and consistent support,” Nestle management narrated.
Nestle Empowering Rural Women in Nigeria project was launched in August 2021. It aims at helping rural women retailers “within the company’s value chain scale up their businesses to increase their household incomes,” the food and beverage producing firm clarified.
