Federal University Staff Remanded In Kabba  Prison Over Alleged Fraud

A 46-year-old staff of Federal University Lokoja in Kogi State, Kennedy Wilfred has been  remanded in Kabba Custodian Centre for his alleged involvement in  a    N4m fraud.

The accused was arraigned by the Department of State Services before the Chief Magistrates’ Court 3 in Lokoja that is presided over by Mohammed Yakubu.

Kennedy Wilfred who was arraigned  on a four-count charge of criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery and forging of documents pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.

He is alleged to have scammed students of money totalling N4m as school fees as demanded of students by the university authorities and accused of issuing fake receipts to them as evidence of payment.

However, luck ran out of the 46 year old when his exploit was discovered during examinations when the concerned students were told that there were no evidence to show that they  paid the stipulated school fees.

It was further learnt that the money belonging to 34 students of the institution, was collected by the accused on the pretext of helping them to generate Remita codes.

The Chief Magistrate, Mohammed Yakubu, ordered the accused to be remanded at the Kabba Correctional Centre until February 6, 2023.
