The Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) is set to commence three new academic programmes in the Faculty of Environmental Design.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Shehu Abdul Raman, disclosed this when he received a team of experts who were in the University to develope the curricular for the newly introduced programmes.
The new programmes are architectural design, building, glass and silicate technology.
This development had brought the number of programmes in the faculty to five.
Until now, the faculty used to offer the twin courses of fine arts and industrial design.
Represented by the Dean, Faculty of environmental Design, Prof. Samaila Usman Dakyes, the vice-chancellor said: “These departments will be operational after the experts from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, have developed the needed curicula.”
Abdul Rahman added that the team would come up with sustainable hybrid curricula, birthed from observation of curricula from universities in Nigeria, South Africa and across Europe.
He expressed his optimism that the seasoned professors who are reknown in the business of curriculum development would give their best to support the University’s transformation goal of becoming the fifth best university in Africa.
In his response, Prof. Musa Lawal Sagada, who led the team, appreciated the management of FULafia for the warm reception accorded to them, assuring the vice-chancellor that the team would carry out its assignment diligently.
He said that when the programmes were finally commenced in the University, Nasarawa State and the nation at large would be the greatest beneficiaries.
