As part of its plans for expansion and development, the Federal University Dutse, (FUD) has been able to access N165.8m TETFUND intervention for the procurement of equipment for the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Department of Physics, Faculty of Computer, Department of Biochemistry, and Sports Directorate among others.
This was revealed by the varsity’s Vice- Chancellor, Professor Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed while addressing journalists at the institution’s conference hall in Dutse, to mark his one-year in office.
“The first thing I did when I took over a year ago was to embark on tour of the campus especially the students hostels. I immediately ordered for the renovation and expansion of facilities in both male and female hostels and commenced the construction of a new 100-bed  female hostel, which has now reached 90 per cent completion stage,” he said.
Speaking further, he said, “Our ICT Directorate has successfully developed a new university staff portal that has already incorporated functions like staff profile and pay slip generation, while some other functions like staff appraisal, annual and casual leave, university health centre electronic medical records and lots more are under consideration.
“This system provides means for all staff to update their profiles online which is to be used in the university website with the use of smart phones.
“Similarly the ICT Directorate has successfully developed and deployed an efficient, responsive, and user friendly result processing module for the university namely ‘MY RESULT” whereby, students can access their results online through the use of this module.
“Transcript’s and Senate format results such as grade distribution, summary of graduating students, press releases and student exams cards can now be generated easily using the new system,” he informed.

The VC stated within the last one year, the university purchased over 5,000 books especially in pre- clinical and over 500,000 e- resources and 1,000 journals in different fields.
“We also purchased a large number of medical journals and have equally received donations of books and other educational materials from other donor organizations.
“In this regard, we have since installed a 45-Mbps wireless broadband internet service on the campus for staff and students.
“This is the first of its kind since the establishment of this university. We have also installed access points across the university to make our internet connectivity more stronger, in addition to installing students wireless access project covering  centres and their hostels,” he added.
On the take over of Rasheed Shekoni Specialist Hospital as university teaching hospital, the VC said the university has injected enough resources using a special Federal Government grant in renovating all the medical wards and the emergency department while at the same time, supplying medical equipment to departments in the hospital such as state-of-the-art CT scan, digital X-Ray machine, fluoroscopy and various nursing equipment.
“We also built a new and modern laundry and sterilization building fully equipped with machines,” he further disclosed.
