The Nigerian Police have insisted that those arraigned in court over the #EndBadGovernance protest were infiltrators who hijacked the peaceful protest and not the organizers.

This was disclosed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi at the weekend, while briefing newsmen at the force headquarters in Abuja.

ACP Adejobi maintained that the Force has credible evidence to prosecute those arrested, contrary to public perception, and that Police were still on the lookout for some master minders of violence in the Lagos/Ogun axis.

However, a prominent member of Labour Party in Arepo community of Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, Ogun State, Francis Okey, has frowned at how police named some of LP members in his neighborhood and connected them to the End Bad Governance demonstration.

According to Okey, “The majority of the people on the police’s wanted list are former APC members who defected to the Labour party, including Chief Anthony Ekpe, Francis Okey, and Joseph Omorodion, who appeared to have left Nigeria, but he was also on the list due to his skill as a grassroots political organizer who left the APC for the Labour party”.

Also, the Amnesty International has condemned Nigeria’s clampdown on protesters who trooped out in August to demonstrate against the economic hardship in the country.

Amnesty International in a statement on Sunday, alleged the Nigerian government of subjecting the protesters to sham trials.
