Registration Begins For Above 50 Football Tournament

Initiator of the maiden Above 50 Football Tournament, slated to  hold in July in Lagos, Ambassador.  Dr. Edward Olutoke has announced the commencement of registration for the championship.

Olutoke who is also the President of Ikeja Chamber of Commerce, Industry  and Agriculture, told our correspondent on Saturday that teams in communities that want to be part of the competition should register online on www. above50football.com and then send an email indicating interest to be part of the tournament to info@above50football.com

” Registration for the tournament has already started and we’re expecting interested community teams to register online through the above addresses.

” I want to assure you that’s going to be an exciting championship as teams will play Group matches and those that qualifies will play in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals after which cash prizes will be given out to outstanding teams,” he said.

According to him, the tournament which will hold from July 28 to 30, 2023 at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos  from 10am to 5pm, is aimed at encouraging the elderly ones in the society to get actively involved in sports, keep fit, offer participants the opportunity to burn out calories, network and discuss business ideas as well as preach peaceful co- existence among Nigerians.

He further re- emphasized that each of the community clubs that will take part in the competition will have a medical practitioner and finance Director attached to the team who will advice them on how  to eat healthy diet  and what it takes to make money amongst others.

He also announced that plans are on the pipeline to play international friendly match with  Ghana and then plan towards a world above 50 football championship.

Overall champions of the competition will go home with N5 million, while the first and second runners-up will be N2 million and N1 million richer.

 It was gathered that there will also be other attractive prizes for participating teams.

The grand finale will also be used to celebrate the birthday of Ambassador Dr. Olutoke.
