The Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Friday stated that the electorates, judiciary and legislature have been conquered by the powers that be saying, “The media is the arm that is still standing”.
Delta State Chairman, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu made the assertion while conferring the “Most Outstanding Deltan in Diaspora Award in Community Service” on a Nigerian- United Kingdom based lawyer, Olorogun (Barr.) Emmanuel.O. Ganiga for his contribution to the development of the grassroots in Oghara, Ethiope-West Local Government Area, Delta State.
Ikeogwu also stated that the NUJ is more prepared to chart the cause of development in Delta State with its reportage.
While noting that journalists practice their profession in volatile areas, Ikeowgu said practitioners remain undaunted inspite of the challenges they faced.
Ikeogwu who presented the award to the lawyer, also invested the lawyer as its”Patron”.
Ikeogwu stated that Olorogun Ganiga was chosen for the award based merit and his integrity.
“You are no longer a local man having traversed the length and breath of Delta State.”
He assured the legal practitioner that the NUJ will identify with him anytime, any day.
In his acceptance speech, Ganiga thanked the NUJ for deeming it necessary for the recognition as a patron of the noble profession.
Ganiga who was flanked by his Wife, Chief (Mrs.) Helen Ganiga and the former Chairman of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission,DSIEC, Mr. Moses Ogbe said”Community development, am encouraged. We will all work together. I should be able to project the image of NUJ. We will work together for development.”
