A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Lawmaker representing Lagelu/Akinyele Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Temitope Olatoye Sugar has advised Nigerians to elect only those with means of livelihood into political offices.
Honourable Olatoye gave the advice at the official commissioning of an ultra modern palace of Baale of Ile Igbon, in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State donated by him.
The lawmaker pointed out that considering the present economic crisis in the country, it is glaring that Nigeria needs only the politicians with means of livelihood as those to be elected into political offices henceforth.
According to the APC lawmaker, the time has also come for Nigerians to begin to see politics as a call to service, rather than an avenue to accumulate wealth, saying he has been spending money realized from his personal businesses to embark on series of developmental and welfare projects in Oyo State.
He maintained that it will be unwise “to entrust commonwealth in the hand of greedy and selfish politicians in this period of economic hardship”.
Honourable Olatoye emphasized that one of the ways of putting smiles on the face of millions of Nigerian masses at this time when over 27 states of the federation are currently not financially viable and could not pay salaries of their workers, “is for those who have in abundance to begin to think of how to give back to the society”.
On the strike embarked upon by civil servants in the state, Hon Olatoye urged the striking workers and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in Oyo State to embrace dialogue with Governor Abiola Ajimobi and fashion out the way forward.
The lawmaker stressed that Oyo State would soon overcome the current economic crisis facing the state.
