Ekweremadu leads South East govs, others to Mrs Kanu’s burial

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu is expected to lead dignitaries to the burial of the mother of former Nigeria international, Nwankwo Kanu, Mrs. Susan Nwannediya Kanu Iheme billed for Arochukwu, Imo State on December 2 and 3.
The Matriarch of the Kanu family passed away on September 7.
Chairman of the Burial Committee and Executive Director of the Kanu Heart Foundation (KHF), Pastor Onyebuchi Abia, told NNsports that the committee was committed to making the two-day event memorable.
“In addition to Senator Ekweremadu, governors of Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Anambra and Enugu states have also indicated that they will attend the funeral,” Abia said, stressing, “Former speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, as well as senators Enyinnaya Abaribe and Hope Uzodimma, former Abia State governorship aspirants Alex Otti and top politician Victor Umeh will also grace the occasion.”
According to Abia, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will be fully represented while various stakeholders in Nigerian sports and footballers from across Africa, Europe and America will also attend.
“We also expect the participation of corporate bodies in the country, in view of the fact that Kanu is a brand whose impact on the society is renowned, although we will only be able to give details on this as the D-day approaches,” the committee boss further said.
Meanwhile, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has sent a letter of condolence to the founder of the Kanu Heart Foundation, Nwankwo Kanu, over the latter’s loss of his mother.
The Deputy Senate President said in the letter dated October 27 2016, that he was saddened by the development.
“This is no doubt a very grievous loss, not only to you and your family, but also to us your well wishers as well,” Ekweremadu concluded.
