Ekiti moves against spread of Lassa Fever to boarding schools

Worried by the first case of Lassa fever recorded in Ekiti State, the state government has directed Principals of Secondary Schools with boarding facilities to monitor food intake of students to avert any occurrence among the students.
The state Commissioner for Education, Mr. Jide Egunjobi said the directive to schools had become necessary to prevent spread of the disease among students living in schools.
He told newsmen that the Principals had also been told to pay attention to state of sanitation in the schools.
He said the students on the other hand have also been advised to compliment government efforts by maintaining personal hygiene during and after school hours, especially when they are in the dormitories.
Also, the state House of Assembly, through its Speaker, Mr. Kola Oluwawole urged residents to declare total war on rats and join hands with the state government in preventing spread of the disease in all parts of the state.
Meanwhile, the ministries of Information, Health and Environment have embarked on massive sensitization exercise on the state owned electronic media on the Lassa Fever outbreak with do’s and don’ts about Lassa Fever are now being aired intermittently on radio and television stations in the state.
