The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has congratulated Muslims on the celebration of Ed-el-Kabir.
It said the opportunity to celebrate this year’s Sallah is through the grace of Allah and urged the Islamic faithful to spend their holiday to offer prayers to build better relationship with God for more blessings to celebrate more of Ed-el-Kabir holidays on earth.
In a statement by the Deputy Chairman of the party, Chief Mrs. Kemi Olaleye, the party also urged Muslims and indeed all Nigerians to reflect on the lessons of Ed-el-Kabir and used the significance of the season of sacrifice to build a better relationship with God for more mercies to overcome the current economic challenges facing the nation.
“This season is about moving closer to God through obedience to His words and an abiding faith in His love for us.
“At a period like this when everything seems hopeless on account of the nation’s tottering economy, we must pray to God for mercy to enable us overcome the current challenges.
“We must also pray to God to grant our leaders the sacrifice needed to enable our nation emerge from the present economic crisis stronger.
While urging Muslims and indeed all Nigerians not to allow the lessons of Eid-el-Kabir to be lost on them, Olaleye said the Islamic festival should not be seen as a period for display of ostentation or recklessness, but a period of deep reflection on the need to be closer to God and make sacrifices needed for more grace from Allah.
“If we all behave like Ibrahim who loved Allah and was obedient to Him to sacrifice his only son as a mark of obedience to Allah’s commandment, getting closer to God and making sacrifices for the sake of our nation will greatly enhance Nigeria’s capacity to come out of the present economic woods,” he said.
While counselling drivers against reckless driving, Olaleye also urged the youth to shun alcohol and other vices that will diminish the essence of Eid-el-Kabir, reminding them that contaminating the holy season with immoral acts is not the way to build a relationship with God.
She urged Nigerians to pray for President Muhammadu Buhari and his cabinet for good health, wisdom and energy to steer the nation’s economic ship to a safe harbour while also urging Nigerians to be patient with the Federal Government in its economic revival initiatives.
