Barely two years to the end of his administration in Ekiti state, Governor Ayodele Fayose has warned governorship hopefuls on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform in the state not to distract him with their ambitions.
“As we move into the second half of our government, I call for support from everybody so that we can face those antagonising us and by God’s grace we shall prevail over them. We need to work together as a team, an indivisible one. Those who want to seek the office of the governor on the platform of our party must do it with decorum.
“They must not let that distract me, the government and our great party. My major concern is to by God’s grace lead our party to victory in 2018. I don’t have any preferred person, for I want God to choose somebody after His heart to succeed me. I don’t want to choose anybody by my knowledge, for I rely on God,” he stressed.
Governor Fayose gave the warning while speaking during a dinner to mark the anniversary of his government,
Earlier, while featuring on an interview programme on radio and television stations, the Governor said Ekiti State Government hopes to be able to begin to access facilities from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) next year following the diversion of over N850 million by the previous administration in 2012.
‎The governor said the funds that would be accessed would be used to renovate schools in the state.
He noted that the state had served its suspension from the commission’s funding and lamented that the state lost so much due to the action of the former administration.
In similar vein, Governor Fayose said the state government would also set up a special school for gifted children in the state.
“Hopefully, we will again be able to access funds from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in 2017 after our state had been suspended from the activities of the commission following the diversion of N850 million by the immediate past administration. The funds we hope to access will be used to renovate and equip our schools.
“We will take every necessary step to further consolidate the gains we have recorded in the education sector. In the same vein, we will set up a school for gifted children and this will harness the potential of our young ones across communities in the state,”he said.
On the performance of his administration, Governor Fayose said the people of the state could assess him and compare his administration with those that were before his own.
He added that he was focused on the future and that the gains of the administration would be consolidated upon.
The governor also disclosed that more township roads would be dualised and that no project would be left abandoned.
He added that no worker would be owed any salary before he leaves office.
