The Kaduna State Federal Road Safety Command has said it will deploy 406 marshals across the state for Sallah celebration.
Corp Editor Shehu Mohammed told Newsmen on Wednesday in Kaduna, during the flag off of Ember Months Campaign/Eid-El Kabir Sallah patrol operations.
Mohammed said the state command will deploy 406 marshals, six ambulances, 30 patrol vehicles and 400 Special Marshals accros the state.
He said the sensitisation was necessary as the Ember months are when traveling and other economic activities increase geometrically throughout the length and breadth of the country.
“We are sensitising motorist on the use of appropriate tyres because the use of worn out, expired, over-inflate or under-inflated tyres are regular cause of tyre burst which inadvertently leads to road traffic crashes on the roads”.
He added that the sallah operation was to also sensitise the public on speed limiting devices and the use of appropriate tyres on vehicles.
“Global statistics from the world bank and the United Nations have indicated that Nigeria is one of the leading countries on road traffic crashes thereby leading to wanton loss of lives and property with its attendant negative impact on the economy causing suffering and untold hardship to the families the victims left behind.
“Statistics have equally shown that excessive and over speeding are the major causes of this traffic carnage.
“While the FRSC as part of its primary responsibilities sought the intervention of the federal government, the president approved. The implementation of speed limiting device to regulate and control the speed of vehicles is effective Oct.1, 2016.
He advised motorist on over loading, over speeding as they contribute to auto crash.
“We want to reduce the number of crashes in the state and I therefore advise all motorist to avoid over loading and speeding during this festive period.
According to him, FRSC has started the implementation with subtle force by calming down motorist on top speed, educating them on advantages of limiting speed and the negative effects of moving at high speed.
“FRSC is commencing the implementation with commercial vehicle drivers because we felt there is a contract between the passengers and the commercial vehicle drivers to take them to their destination safely and comfortably.
“The FRSC is assisting the drivers to execute their own side of the contract while protecting the gullible passengers from the carnage of excessive speeding by irresponsible drivers.”
