Chief Justice of Bauchi State, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar has counseled the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ensure good synergy with the Judiciary to effectively discharge its duties.
Talatu who made the plea when the Head of Operations, Gombe Zonal office of the commission, Aminu Ado Aliyu paid her a visit in Bauchi, said that the visit came at a better time when the fight against corruption is being intensified to bring the menace to a minimal level.
Justice Rabi commended the EFCC for what she described as ‘doing a good job’, and assured the cooperation of the Bauchi state judiciary to help the anti-graft agency fight corruption, saying judicial officers in Bauchi are ready to help in this regard.‎
She advised the EFCC to continue building the capacities of its staff to confront the challenges, noting that EFCC cases being criminal, the onus and burden relied on prosecutors to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt.
The Chief Judge therefore urged prosecutors to do their work well to convince the courts on their cases in order to get what they want,
and commended EFCC lawyers for coming to court on time despite coming from Gombe to attend hearings.
The Gombe zonal head of the EFCC, Aminu Ado Aliyu has earlier noted that judiciary is the last institutions to define the investigation of the EFCC operations.
He said the visit is mandatory considering the delay tactics applied by lawyers especially at preliminary stage in order to allegedly sabotage the outcome of trials.
Mr. Aminu Ado Aliyu urged the Bauchi Chief Judge to continue demonstrating her courage and fairness in her proceeding.
Also speaking, Barrister Abubakar Aliyu of Legal and Prosecution Department of the commission assured the Chief Justice that the shortcomings of the EFCC are going to be addressed for better discharge of its duties.
Barrister Aliyu commended the efforts being made by the judges to improve the discharge and dispensation of justice, asking them to be proactive in discharging their duties
