As part of effort to uplift quality education in the state, the Kaduna State Government has commenced the disbursement of World Bank-supported Global Partnership in Education (GEP), Nigerian Partnership for Education Project (NIPEP) grant to 2,075 primary schools across the state.
During the flag off of the disbursement, Kaduna state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Andrew Nok hinted that for a start, N535 million would be disbursed to 2,075 schools.
Professor Nok stated that the 2,075 primary schools, including 600 pre-primary and 200 Islamiyya schools would received a cheque of N200,000 each, as the first set of beneficiaries.
The cheques were presented to the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC)/ Parent Teachers Association (PTA).
The Commissioner who was represented by the Director of Schools in the ministry, Malam Dahiru Anchau, further explained that the project, which would last for four years, would cover all the 4,225 primary schools in the state.
He explained that by September, another batch would received their cheques until all the schools are covered, adding that those who make judicious use of the money would received more at the course of the project.
“The project is being supported by the World Bank with the main goal of improving access, ensuring quality, as well as to ensure effective monitoring and evaluation.
“The money is being entrusted to SBMC/PTA in each of the schools to avoid fraud and mismanagement and they are expected to utilise the money based on the schools area of needs’’, he said.
He urged the SBMC to make judicious use of the grant to uplift the quality of education and improve access to primary education in their respective schools.
The SBMC Chairperson in LEA Ungwan Kanawa Primary School, Hajiya Tabawa Inuwa, who spoke onbehalf of the beneficiaries commended the World Bank for the kind gesture and promised to utilize the fund judiciously.
Earlier, the Chairperson, Association of Head Teachers, Kaduna North Local Government Area, Mrs Gloria Jatau, said the gesture would improve the quality of education delivery system in the state.
