Edo guber: No anointed candidate – APC
By; Jacob Onjewu Dickson
As political activities in Edo State become tensed due to the winding up of Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s tenure, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held a meeting on Wednesday with aspirants that will be contesting for the governorship position under its platform preparatory to the primaries.
Speaking with newsmen on what transpired at the meeting, one of the aspirants, Arc. Ilenre Austin Emuan said all aspirants under the APC were in the secretariat at the behest of the National leadership so that they could discuss ahead of the primaries and be reminded of the manifesto of the party, adding that they were all assured of a level playing field.
Emuan said: “We came here for a meeting as all aspirants were invited for a meeting with the national leadership of the APC to come and have a chat as far as the campaigns for the Edo State gubernatorial elections are concerned and it was a very fruitful meeting.
“As we know, the political climate in the state is getting warmer hence the party felt we had to meet so that we could be reminded of the party manifesto, ideology and the fact that everyone should embrace the rule of fair play and above all, to assure everyone of us that all the aspirants will be given a level playing field”.
When asked about the news making the rounds of an alleged anointed candidate that will fly the party’s flag during the election, Emuan said the party had debunked such rumours and assured all aspirants that the flag bearer can only emerge through the primaries.
“Of course there are a lot of insinuations going around that there is an anointed candidate but today, all that has been laid to rest. I can say that many of us left with so much confidence about the APC and in the process of the forthcoming primaries in Edo State” he stressed.
