The convoy of the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu was involved in an auto crash on Sunday while on its way to the northern part of the state to kick start the All Progressives Congress campaigns in Etsako for the House of Reps election.
The House Representative election is slated for next week Saturday. The deputy governor until November 12, 2016 was the representative of Etsako Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives. He vacated the position when he become the state deputy governor less than three months ago.
According to Mr Ebomhiame Musa, media aide to the deputy governor, Two of the Hilux vans in the convoy were badly damaged but no life was lost and nobody sustained serious injuries.
He disclosed that a bike rider and his wife who sustained minor injuries were immediately taken to a private hospital for medical attention.
Rt Hon Phillip who was said not to have sustained any injury during the accident later visited the couple at the hospital in company of some senior state government officials.
The deputy governor had promised to pay the bills and give him a tricycle in place of his damaged motorcycle, warning that the drivers who caused the accident through share recklessness would be prosecuted according to Nigeria’s traffic laws.
According to him, “I have told the Area Commander to do thorough investigation and make sure the case is charged to court. Anybody found guilty must face the music. I want it to serve as a deterrent to other reckless drivers who believe that driving government vehicles was a licence to be reckless on the highways”.
