The former Governor of Benue State Mr. Gabriel Suswam has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to construct a solid and vibrant economic team to rescue the present dwindling economy facing the country.
He stated this in an interview with Journalists at the Emir of Zazzau’s palace in Zaria, Kaduna State.
According to him, the call was necessary in view of the present economic recess which engulfed not only Nigeria but the world.
“The President had started on the right part, what he needs to do is to reengineer his economic team” he stressed.
Mr. Suswam said what we need is a solid and virile economic team to sit down with the President and look at the problems with a view to proffering solution.
“This is a global recession which started few years back in America, Briton and some European countries, Nigeria thought that it was isolated but now it had come to us.
“What Nigeria need to do is to look inward and cut our coat according to our size but this will only be achieved with a solid vibrant economic team for the President to be able to check what we are going through.
“Many countries in America and Europe have cut-down a lot of spendings on things that are not necessary.
“Therefore, Nigeria must follow sooth. Mr. President needs to re-prioritise, let us have light, basic infrastructure, let there be food on table of all Nigerians, the country will keep going”.
On the national integration, the former Governor identified genuine collective efforts by Nigerians as one of the critical factors that would foster national unity.
He stressed the need for Nigerians to respect each others’ rights, religion and interest for the country to record meaningful growth and development.
“It is a collective responsibility of all Nigerians to ensure continuity of Nigeria as an integrated nation.
For those people forecasting the breaking of Nigeria did not get it right, Nigeria will never ever break, we will still remain together as a country” he added.
The former Benue State Governor expressed appreciation for the invitation extended to him by the Emir of Zazzau to partake in Sallah celebration in Zazzau emirate.
“To me, this the first time I am spending Sallah festival in Zaria. I witness the peaceful nature of it and I must therefore commend His Royal Highness for giving Zaria the kind of peace I have seen today,” he said.
“These are the kind of fathers we need in this country at this critical time in our history, I am therefore very excited and happy to be part of this occasion”.
He, however lamented that some Nigerians use religion to achieve selfish political interest, saying that such attitude would neither help nor portray anything good of the nation.
