Ebonyi MASSCOM Professor Dies At 60, Laid To Rest

The people of Ogharugo Umuoghara, Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have mourned the sudden demise of their son and in-law, late Professor Hygeinus N. Aligwe, who died at the age of 60 years.

The burial service which took place at St. Pius Parish, Ogharugo Umuoghara, witnessed great turnout of friends and well wishers from all walks of life, who came to sympathize and pay their last respect to the late professor.

While delivering his homily, the parish priest in charge of St. Pius Parish Ogharugo, Umuoghaara in Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Rev. Fr. Chukwuma Agha Ewa, charged Christians to always place priority in their spiritual lives and have good relationship with God to ensure their eternal life.

Rev. Fr. Ewa further said that God has given everyone on earth an opportunity to repent and live a holy life by sacrificing His only begotten son to save mankind from destruction, urging Christians to remain steadfast and committed in serving God with everything they have in order to make heaven at last.

Speaking with newsmen after the burial, the Head of Mass Communication Department, Ebonyi State University, Dr Agatha Orji Egwu, stated that the sudden departure of late Prof. Hygeinus Aligwe came as a rude shock to everybody, saying that the entire department and Ebonyi University as a whole, has lost an icon; an academic giant and a renowned professor who has distinguished himself in every aspect of human endeavour.

She encouraged the family of the deceased to take solace in the Lord, since only Him knows the best.

Also speaking, a senior lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, Dr Samuel Nweze noted that late Professor Aligwe died when his services to humanity were needed most, but the legacies he left behind will continue to speak for him always.

He therefore, prayed God to grant his soul eternal rest.

The burial was attended by dignitaries from within and outside the state, including a former Secretary to Ebonyi State Government, Dr Boniface Chima; the Chairman of Ebonyi State Universal Basic Education, Chief Hycent Ikpor, Prof Joseph Afiaukwa, Prof Ngozi Emeka Nwobia, Prof. Jonathan Aliede, Prof. Ifeyinwa Nsude, among others.
