Ebonyi Market Building Collapse Claims 3 Lives, Others Sustain Injuries

*Umahi commiserates with family of  diseased, orders full investigation

A popular community market known as “Ekeaja Market” at Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has collapsed,  killing three persons while others sustained various degrees of injury.
Following the tragic event, Governor David Umahi  has commiserated with families of the diseased, while.he ordered Police to carry out full investigation into the cause of incident.
It was gathered that the market collapsed Friday  evening, when traders were busy with their business transactions
According to an eye witness  who wouldn’t want his  name in print,  part of the building structure of the market collapsed when heavy wind that lasted up to 30 minutes blew,  which made the building to collapse,  killing a young girl of about 14 years, with others sustaining injuries.
Reacting to the incident,  Governor  David Umahi while commiserating with the families, disclosed  that three persons lost their lives in the market building collapse, stating that he received the news with rude shock.
The governor described the occurrence as catastrophic, praying God to grant their souls eternal rest.
“We have received the news of the unfortunate incident of the toppling of a part of one of the shades at Ekeaja Market and the death of three persons in the incident with rude shock. 
“As mortals, we cannot question God, but we pray fervently for God Almighty to grant the victims rest in his bosom and comfort their families.
“We however, pray that God Almighty grants the hospitalized survivors quick recovery and reintegration with their families.
“I, therefore, implore our security agencies to work with the engineers at the  Ministry of Works and the contractor of the project to immediately mobilize for a thorough investigation into this unfortunate incident to discover the causes of the ugly occurrence as a way of averting reoccurrence,” he said.
All efforts made to get the reaction of the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odah proved abortive as she did not respond to calls as at the time of filing this report.
