The three local Government areas in Ebonyi State which made up Izhi Clan which comprises of Abakaliki, Ebonyi and Izhi on Sunday, celebrated their Ojijji Festival at their ancestral home, Amagu.

One of the illustrious sons of the clan, Mr.Ben Nwovu said that Ojiji Festival is a unique culture of Izhi people, because it marks the beginning of New Year in Izhi culture and also the time when ban is lifted for people to start harvesting, eating and selling new yam in the market.

Also, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mrs.Beatrice Eze noted that Ojiji as an annual festival, is so special because it stands as a symbol of unity, peace and harmony in Izhi land, adding that it usually creates an opportunity for all their sons and daughters to come together as one and equally strengthen and propagate their cultural heritage.

In his remarks, the governor of Ebonyi State, Engineer David Umahi appreciated Izhi people for the warm reception accorded him, as well as their support to his government, saying that most of the legacy projects of his administration ate sited in Izhi land and therefore, urged them to come together in unity to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial flag bearer, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru who is also their son to become the next governor of Ebonyi State.
