The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has been commended for addressing the plights of retired Primary School Teachers in the state by releasing one billion Naira to settle their gratuities.

Ethical and Attitudinal Reorientation Commission (EARCOM), gave the commendation through the Head Media/Advocacy Unit, Reverend  Osondu Ahirika, while speaking on a Radio programme in Uyo yesterday.

Ahirika also mentioned the release of another 800 million Naira by the governor to clear the backlog of leave grants owed civil servants in the state as another action worthy of commendation.

According to Ahirika, the gesture is a considerate, kind hearted and a demonstration of Governor Umo Eno’s responsiveness to the peoples outcry and a firm commitment to honouring his campaign pledge about workers welfare.

Ahirika who stressed that there is no justification to condemn vice if one cannot commend virtue, urged the people to appreciate Governor Umo Eno for the timely intervention on the protracted issue of gratuities and leave grants payment in under 100 days in office.

The Media/Advocacy Unit Head of EARCOM,  however tasked workers and the people to reciprocate the governors’ kind disposition by putting in more diligence to reposition the service with a view to impacting positively on the quality of governance.

He noted that beyond ensuring regular payment of workers’ salaries, Governor Eno has directed that Leave grants should henceforth be incorporated into monthly salaries for prompt payment, describing this as in keeping with his now habitual tilt to new templates and tinges to governance.

On the nine-year old Akwa Ibom pupil of Mobil Pegasus Schools, Miss Mmekudmfon Wilfred Effiong who emerged winner for the National Creative Writing Competition, EARCOM advocated that a Hall of Fame be instituted to celebrate,  honour and immortalise Akwa Ibom citizens who excel in various endeavours of life and make them  brand Ambassadors of the State.

EARCOM congratulated Miss Effiong, a primary 4 pupil and Imaobong Uko who is making exploits internationally in athletics, among many others and urged citizens to emulate their stellar examples and perform greater feats worthy of recognition rather than resort to social vices, idleness and slothfulness.
