There was pandemonium on Wednesday in Kaduna metropolis when a stray bullet fired by operatives of Department of State Security (DSS) accidentally hit and killed a mother of five along Kaduna – Abuja Express way.
The victim, a woman was said to be aboard a commercial vehicle on her way from Abuja to Kaduna with her five children when she was hit by the stray bullet.
The incident actually occurred around Jere town before her corpse was brought to tall gate, located at Kakau/ Sabon Gayan community.
An eyewitness said the incident occurred around 2:15 pm when the DSS operatives open fire on the vehicle as they attempted to shoot at another vehicle along the highway.
Details of who the identity of the person the DSS operatives were after remain sketchy.
“We actually don’t know what really happened but we only saw the DSS operatives about 6 of them arriving in two hilux vehicle. Immediately they saw a vehicle coming they tried to stop the driver but he refuses to stop so they shot at him.
“But unfortunately they missed their targets and hit at the commercial vehicle conveying the victim and her five children. She died on the spot. This angered motorists that witnessed the incidence as they block the high way,” an eye witnessed told our correspondent on phone.
It was further gathered that it took the intervention of police commissioner to plead with the motorists to pave way for other vehicles plying the highway.
The State Commissioner of Police Adamu Ibrahim confirmed the incident, saying the DSS suspects have being arrested by the police as he called for calm.
According to him, investigation is ongoing to ascertain the situation.
