Drugs: NDLEA Arrests 180 Persons In Nasarawa

The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested about 180 suspected drug barons for allegedly being in possession of over 3,331 kilogrammes of narcotic drugs in Nasarawa State.

The state commandant, Sumaila Ethan,  made this known at a press briefing in Lafia.

Ethan said 47 drug barons were convicted and 133 drug addicts were counseled and rehabilitated in the state.

He said the command had also arrested a 40-year-old drug baron, Christain Okeke, for alleged possession of 108 cartons of Tramadol 225mg, weighing 2,873.88 kilogrammes in Masaka area of Karu Local Government Area of the state.

According to the commandant, the suspect was arrested on December 7, 2017, adding that saying that the operational activities between January and December, 2017 revealed an increase in the number of arrests, seizures above that of last year, especially in the abuse of psychotropic substances such as Tramadol codeine among others.

“It may interest you to know that Tramadol which is an addictive similar to heroin in its addictive nature, has become the most abused psychoactive substance in the state”, he said.
