Wife of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Patience Umo Eno has counselled juveniles at the Correctional Centre in Uyo, not to condemn themselves as God still loves them irrespective of the mistakes that brought them to the facility.
The governor’s wife, who is a Pastor, gave the counsel on Friday, when she visited the centre to share words of encouragement with the children as well as donate gift items to them.
Pastor Eno advised them to take advantage of the discipline instilled in them, in order to become change agents, and ambassadors of Christ in the society.
“Today I came to greet you and I’m glad to see your faces. You are too beautiful and handsome to be here. The mistakes made is the reason why you are here and by that, you have denied yourselves of life’s privileges.
“I want to let you know that you are not here because God hates you. It doesn’t matter what you have done in the past, He still loves you. I want you to promise me that you will truly change and become better children to yourselves and this state,” the First Lady said.
In her motherly disposition, Pastor Eno anchoring on Psalms 69 verse 33, reminded them that being confined in the centre is not an indication that God does not love them but rather a place to discipline and correct them to become better children.
The governor’s wife who said she is determined to reform, rehabilitate and reintegrate the children into the society where they would grow to become useful citizens, also urged them not to lose focus on their dreams and pledged her commitment to their welfare.
The First Lady who also advised them to shun all anomalies capable of truncating their bright future, prayed for God’s blessings upon the children. While thanking the caregivers and all staff of the home, she promised to regularly interface with the inmates.
She also presented Nurse Imo Uko as the new matron of the facility and solicited that they give her all the support she needs.
In her remarks, the Coordinator of FEYReP, Dr. Idorenyin Ekanem who was in charge of the centre thanked Pastor Patience for taking out time to visit the children while also intimating her that the children in the facility are being trained on on various skills like shoemaking, tailoring and the basics of education.
