The President of the Sports Writers Association of NIgeria (SWAN), Sir Honour Sirawoo has charged members to be united to frustrate efforts of those plotting to divide its ranks.
He gave the charge at the get together organised by the Kwara chapter of SWAN organised in honour of visiting sports writers from all over the country to the 2021 National Youth Games (NYG) in Ilorin on Monday.
“SWAN is bigger than all of us. We must not do anything that will divide the association.
“Let’s work as a team and put the association first,” he said.
Speaking further, Sirawoo thanked the sponsor of the get together, Chief Aloy Chukwuemeka, for sustaining the annual gathering.
“I want to thank Aloy Chukwuemeka for sustaining the ritual of get together for SWAN members at the Youth Games in Ilorin over the past five editions.
“I hear Lagos and Delta are bidding to host the next NYG. I pray they sustain the ritual,” he appealed.
Chief Aloy Chukwuemeka in his vote of thanks, appreciated the SWAN President for attending the get together.
He said being as an administrator, he would not forget his roots as a sports writer.
“Today, the President is at the peak of the civil service as the permanent secretary of Ministry of Sports in Rivers State.
“He is bringing the election that will produce the next president will be here in Kwara,” he disclosed.
Chukwuemeka explained that before he came on board, SWAN was lacking a lot of improvements he initiated.
“We didn’t have a functional office before our able president came on board. Now we have the highest respect as an association under his tenure,” he said.
He prayed that God who led all from various parts of the country to Ilorin will take them back safely.
“Let us try to be professional in the delivery of our services,” he advised..
