Erstwhile Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin has stated that Speaker Yakubu Dogara has begged for his colleagues’ forgiveness over the 2016 budget allegations against him.
The lawmaker who said Dogara went round meetings of zonal caucuses to seek truce as the House resumes, vowed however that “whoever is thinking that the matter would be swept under the carpet is dreaming”.
He also said he was not scared of being suspended by the House, or even a worse case scenario, stressing that he was aware his life was in danger since the beginning of the controversy.
“The meeting was called as a North West caucus meeting so I went. I was shocked to see the Speaker at the meeting, to beg for the forgiveness of his wrongdoing, and the other principal officers”, the lawmaker stated, explaining that the meeting ended in quarrel when he was denied a chance to speak.
Jibrin also disclosed that one of the principal officers he had accused in the budget padding allegations; the Chief Whip, Alhassan Ado Doguwa was at the meeting, rejected as leader of the North West Caucus through votes of no confidence by majority of members.
The House, through its spokesman, Abdulrazak Namdas alongside 13 members of the North West Caucus and other colleagues denied Jibrin’s asertions, as spreading falsehood.
“That is a lie. Doguwa mobilised members of the North West caucus for the meeting, and he was even on the floor today, still coordinating members from the zone.  All along, Jibrin has been bringing up allegations, and has not provided any proof”, he said.
