Bishop of the Diocese of Kaduna, Reverend Timothy Yahaya has lamented high cost of living in Nigeria as it is biting hard on the masses which he said was further made worse due to sharp increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
He said Nigeria economy was fuel driven; therefore any hike in fuel would have a domino effect on virtually every aspect of everyday life in the country.
“Liberalizing the oil sector should have been done with human face so that the effect (negative) could not overwhelm the masses who are always at the receiving end of wrong government policies.
“Palliative should have been put in place to cushion the effects being felt now particularly by the downtrodden who seldom have to eat three square meals daily.
“The tomatoes and pepper grinders need fuel, the barbing saloon, vulcanizers, the welders, the panel beaters all depend on fuel to do their business due to governments failure to provide consistent electricity for the citizenry in this country”, he asserted.
The cleric said urgent solution was needed at this time of exigency to address the current hardship being felt across Nigeria.
