Desertification; Kebbi begins tree planting

No fewer than five hundred youths have been engaged by Kebbi State Government to plant varieties of plantations at designated areas particularly areas affected by dissatification.
Speaking at the occasion, Minister of Environment, Hajiya Amina Mohammed said the implementation of the progamme has become necessary due to the challenges of desert encrochment by states like Kebbi in the northern Nigeria,
Represented by Commissioner of Environment in Kebbi State, Alhaji Gado Marafa, the Minister stated that government has provided over one million seedlings which Kebbi state will plant about five hundred seeds.
She urged Kebbi state government to employ youths that will nurse the seeds after the plantation, warning that most seedling being planted were destroyed because of lukewarm atitude by government.
Also speaking, chairman Kebbi state Development Forum, Alhaji Mohammed G. said the plantation will beutify the bounties of the state.
According to him, such plantation has come at the time when the state was celebrating its 25th annivasary.
