Following rumours of his planned defection, four personal aides to the Senate Minority Leader and Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District have tendered their resignation letters.

New Nigerian gathered that their position was disclosed during a meeting of Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District in Abak.

Led by Barr. Utibe Nwoko, Senior Legislative Aide, they dissociated themselves from any planned defection of the Senator to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and pledged their unalloyed support to the reelection of Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2019.

It is not yet certain that Akpabio who was a two-term PDP governor in the state would go ahead with the planned defection as sources say he is trying to bid time.

It was alleged that the Presidency and the APC are blackmailing him into dumping PDP over alleged corruption perpetrated while he was governor.

A source said the Presidency is pressurizing him to decamp immediately, but he is telling them to give him time until the Senate is reconvened.
