In their quest to help journalists keep abreast with recent development in the journalism field, Dangote Industries Limited in collaboration with Folio Media Creative Academy (FMCA), have kicked off a 3-day critical media workshop in Yola, the Adamawa state capital on Convergence Journalism
Alabi Pius, FMCA Project Coordinator, said the training was conceived to equip Journalists, Media Executives, Public Relations Officers and other professionals to critically analyze the nation’s development trajectory, democratization process, social change as well as gain creative and technical media production skills.
Pius pointed out that Folio Media and Creative Academy (FMCA) is the training arm of Folio Communications Plc. Publishers of Daily Times newspaper.
Addressing participants at the training, the Public Relations Officer of Dangote group of companies in Yola, Mr Daniel Andrew said the core essence of organizing the traininjg is to extend hand of friendship to the Media.
New NIgerian reports that the training holding at King Doken Diplomatic Suites, had in attendance about 60 journalist from across the North-East.
In his presentation on Convergence and Journalism; Dr. Abdullahi Bashir, an Associate Professor with Modibbo Adams University Yola (MAU), took the participant on an interesting trip into the field of Convergence.
Bashir stated that convergence has created an interconnection between information and communication technologies.which has made communication to become narrow
According to him, the factors that led to convergence include widespread of computer networking communication, prolifiration of wireless internet , transformation of TV and the new generation of potable devices.
The University Don maintained that as a result of convergence, technology rich countries have entered the digital age, media industries are grappling with new opportunities and threat.
He stressed further that convergence has broken media barriers and lines have become blured between information, entertainment, education and promotion.
