Customs Impounds 21 Exotic Cars Worth N484m In Lagos

Some of the exotic vehicles impounded by Federal Operations Unit Zone A, Ikeja Lagos.

Operatives of the  Federal Operations Unit, Zone “A” Lagos of the Nigeria Customs Service have impounded 21 exotic vehicles with a duty paid value of N484,458,778,92k.
The vehicles were among the numerous Contraband seized by the Unit between June 13th to July 24th 2018.
The Controller Federal Operations Unit, Zone A Ikeja Lagos, Comptroller Mohammed Uba made the disclosure during a press briefing held on Wednesday.
He identified the vehicles to include one Mercedes Benz G-500( 2016 model), six Toyota Hiace Buses (2018 model), three Lexus Jeep GX460 and Lx570 (2017 model), one Toyota Hilux (2017 model), one Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (2016) and one Toyota Hilux bullet proof (2014 model).
Uba identified others to include one Toyota Corolla (2018 model), two Toyota Camry (2016 model), one Honda Civic (2016 model), one Honda Accord (2016 model), one Dodge Charger (2016 model) among others.
The FOU Comptroller disclosed that 10 of the vehicles were evacuated from the auto shop of Oluwalogbon Motors at 164 Awolowo Way, Ikeja based on credible information, while some were intercepted along Ijebu Ode Expressway.
Stating that nobody has come to claim ownership of the vehicles, Uba implored the owners to come forward with valid Customs clearance documents to secure their release.
In the absence of the this, Uba said the vehicles will be liable to seizure and subsequent forfeiture to the Federal Government in line with the laws of the land.
Remarkably, he disclosed that one of the intercepted vehicles along Ijebu Ode-Ore road, an Iveco Truck marked LAM 283 LG was loaded with 498 cartons of CSP Codeine cough syrup 100ml with each carton containing 200 bottles.
His words, ” It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the first briefing of the third quarter. We intercepted various Contraband with duty paid value (DPV) of N1,120,714,338.12 after intensifying and reviewing our operational modalities.
“The seized items include 21 exotic vehicles. Among the detained vehicles include 1 Mercedes Benz G-500( 2016 model),  6 Toyota Hiace Buses (2018 model),  3 Lexus Jeep GX460 and Lx570 (2017 model), 1 Toyota Hilux (2017 model), 1 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (2016) and 1Toyota Hilux bullet proof (2014 model) 1 Toyota Corolla (2018 model),  2 Toyota Camry (2016 model), 1 Honda Civic (2016 model), 1 Honda Accord (2016 model), 1 Dodge Charger (2016 model) among others.
“As I speak with you, nobody has come to claim ownership. Let me use this opportunity to urge the owners of these vehicles to come forward with valid Customs clearance documents, otherwise they will be liable to seizure and subsequent forfeiture to the Federal Government in-line with laws of the land”.
