The Community Support Project (CSP) of Super Falcons Star Halimatu Ayinde’s Female 5-Aside Soccer Competition is gaining steam at the indoor Gymnasium Hall, Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

This year’s edition which is featuring eight teams is being played in a round-robbin fixture and is expected to end on Christmas Day.

Coordinator of the competition, Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) Kaduna State Secretary, Abdulrazak Usman in an interview on the sidelines of the competition, said that it would not just be a prize less affair, as cash prizes would be presented to the top three teams.

“The Most Valuable Player, Highest Goal Scorer and Most Outstanding Goalkeepers will each be presented with a pair of boots,” he added.

He said the sponsor of the competition and Super Falcons player, Halima Ayinde who was discovered and groomed to stardom by YSFON some years back, decided to use the competition in reaching out to the community.

“She is using this competition to develop the game and create opportunities for girls so they can aspire for greatness seeing her as a role model,” he said.

When asked why other players like her have not been discovered by YSFON of recent, he said that avenues they were using to discover players no longer exist.

“We use to have secondary schools competition which has stopped now,” he said.

The Kaduna YSFON Secretary said that they were still making impact in talent discovery and have even stepped up their game as they have ensured that many girls that were discovered, secured admission into tertiary institutions and combined playing football with education.

“We also try to let our girls know that education is very important. We have an understanding with the Kaduna Polytechnic and Ahmadu Bello University where they give us scholarship for good players.

“Some of our girls that have benefited from that scheme have graduated, got jobs and are contributing financially towards developing new players,” he added.
